Returning Regular Studies Students

This is intended for Regular Studies students continuing their studies after having started their program outside of Canada. Please read carefully before purchasing insurance.

Scenario #1 - Students who started their program overseas and who will be traveling to Canada to continue their studies.

Upon arrival, you will need to apply for Medical Services Plan (MSP) as it is mandatory in the province of British Columbia (BC) for international students to have medical insurance. Since BC MSP does not begin until 3 months after applying/being in the province, you will need to purchase private insurance for those first 3 months. To begin, click on the “Apply for Insurance” icon below.

Important note: As of January 2022, new students will not be required to purchase insurance directly through the guard.me site as the College has included this charge as part of your fees. If you are a new student and plan to arrive before the semester starts, you should purchase additional insurance under Early Arrivals.

Scenario #2 – Students who have left BC and are now returning to BC to continue their studies.

You left British Columbia (BC) for a break longer than 6 months and/or cancelled your Medical Services Plan (MSP) and are now returning to continue your studies with a valid study permit. The 3-month BC MSP wait period applies to you and you will be required to purchase private insurance while you wait for your MSP to become active again. To begin, click on the “Apply for Insurance” icon below

For more information about reactivating your MSP, please refer to the

MSP website

.

Scenario #3 – Students waiting for a new Study Permit

BC MSP is only valid until your study permit end date. If you enter “implied or maintained status” while waiting for study permit renewal verification, you may need to purchase private insurance until you receive approval, and your MSP is active again. If needed, you can purchase private insurance during this time by clicking on the “Apply for Insurance” icon below.
